At work we have an unofficial support group in my department called Tub Club. It is basically an overlap of the group of people I go to lunch with and other people from each of our teams. Some of the members are trying to lose weight, while another group are now more or less at their ideal weight and aiming to maintain their weight while training for various runs and triathlons. I am (obviously) in the group of people who are trying to lose weight.

On Monday mornings we weigh in on the Tub Club electronic scales and our weight is entered in a spreadsheet that works out various statistics and draws a chart. The spreadsheet is password protected, but all the members have access to it and can see how well or badly everyone they and everybody else are doing. I was stuck in a different building for a couple of years and couldn't join in, but since Christmas I have been back in the same building as the others.

We all try to encourage each other, and the fact that I usually go to lunch with other members of Tub Club is keeping me off the chips and away from the pudding counter. I think that having a bit of support in real life as well as on-line is very helpful.
