End of week 2 on the South Beach Diet

HW: 197 lbs.
Last week: 189.5 lbs.
This week: 188 lbs.
TWL: 9 lbs.
STGW: none, taking it day by day
LTGW: 120 lbs., or size 8, whichever comes first
NSV: I successfully avoided the pizza and fancy bakery cake brought into the office for a party on Thursday.

Down 1 1/2 pounds in the past week, less than I expected. I didn't cheat, but I may not have watched my portions as carefully. Plus the past week has been filled with stress and anxiety over some personal issues: the constant adrenaline probably played a role in the disappointing drop.

Spouse took "before" pictures today. The shot from the side was especially awful. I'm not posting them until there are "after" pictures to go with them.

I've lost 7 1/2 lbs. since last Monday! Whee!

I know this kind of accelerated weight loss will not continue after the first couple of weeks, but it's exciting and encouraging to see results like this so fast. Yesterday I put on a pair of jeans that I could barely button two weeks ago, and wore them comfortably all day.

I have no real exercise plan at the moment, other than parking at the back of parking lots wherever I go, which forces me to walk farther to get into the building. On days when it isn't raining, I can go for a walk around the block after work. We haven't had any rain-free days in the past week, unfortunately. But today is sunny!

My copy of The South Beach Diet arrived in today's mail. This weekend is set aside for reading it and grocery shopping, and then Mom and I dive in on Monday.

Subject:Support groups
Time:02:52 pm
At work we have an unofficial support group in my department called Tub Club. It is basically an overlap of the group of people I go to lunch with and other people from each of our teams. Some of the members are trying to lose weight, while another group are now more or less at their ideal weight and aiming to maintain their weight while training for various runs and triathlons. I am (obviously) in the group of people who are trying to lose weight.

On Monday mornings we weigh in on the Tub Club electronic scales and our weight is entered in a spreadsheet that works out various statistics and draws a chart. The spreadsheet is password protected, but all the members have access to it and can see how well or badly everyone they and everybody else are doing. I was stuck in a different building for a couple of years and couldn't join in, but since Christmas I have been back in the same building as the others.

We all try to encourage each other, and the fact that I usually go to lunch with other members of Tub Club is keeping me off the chips and away from the pudding counter. I think that having a bit of support in real life as well as on-line is very helpful.

I have found a *smidge* of motivation somewhere so my mum and I are challenging each other to lose half a stone in 4 weeks. I hope other bc_top peeps can find some too!

Had a bad day yesterday food-wise but pretty much on top of it today apart from 2 chocolates from a colleague! I think I can manage to account for those with a run later ;) I have updated my personal food/weight record (in Excel, sad muppet) and will weigh myself tonight before running. Overcoming Binge Eating is the next book on Mt TBR, and I feel in the mood to take its advice on board... fingers crossed this lasts!

Best wishes to everyone else dealing with these issues...

I have lost a pathetic zero pounds since just before Christmas - In the past three months I have rollercoastered up and down, losing 6lbs at one point but ending up exactly where I started.

I must start making more of an effort on both the diet and exercise fronts. I really need to start going to the gym to do cardio-vascular work rather than just swimming.

I hope that posting my progress here may help my won't-power to turn into willpower : )

Blimey, this place is a bit boggling for the new user! I think I made it :)

I'm not following any particular diet at the moment, I did lose about 8 stone on Weight Watchers a couple of years back, but let myself go a bit and now want to lose the 1.5-2st I have put back on! The really annoying thing is I know exactly what I am supposed to be doing, the foods to eat, the exercise to do - but sometimes I just don't want to, and I haven't got my head around why I want to wilfully disregard what I know is best and eat junk. I find the exercise easier to keep up than the healthy eating, and I am hoping that the decline I am now starting to notice in my running will give me a kick up the bum to eat better.

Good luck to everyone else dealing with all this!

Boy, did I have trouble trying to get into here! In the end I just used logic and ..... here I am.
I think I'll be trying the low GI diet (cos I bought the book). What diet is anyone else doing?

Iris:)
BTW, do we use real names here?
